The Line of Nine

No, no, I’m not off to Malta to enjoy my lottery winnings. I made another $2 (this is getting a bit silly, isn’t it?). But since the financial situation is an ongoing concern, I wanted to do a reading proper about what’s coming up in that area over the next couple of weeks. I used the Line of Nine, which is my spread for looking at a particular subject without throwing a full board.
Here’s how it works: You can either pick a card for the focus of the reading and put it in the middle of the line, or draw cards randomly and see what comes up. Given how the Fish (money is my focus here) has been figuring into my readings lately, I decided to let the cards fall where they may instead of pulling it out of the deck and putting it in the middle of the spread (and I was not disappointed
).
The Line of Nine is read straight across, and you also look at the reflecting cards - the first card and the last card make a combination, the second card and the eighth card make a combination, as do the third and seventh cards, then the fourth and sixth cards. The fifth, or middle card is the focus or hinge of the reading, and that, of course, combines with the card on either side of it. I’ve found the Line of Nine to be a useful way to get to the heart of a matter. It’s easier to show than tell, so I’ll post the spread here.
Note on shuffling: After I do a reading with more than three or four cards, I deal the cards face down into five or six stacks, regather them, and shuffle, to make sure that they aren’t all in the same place, and I’m getting a truly random selection. I mention this as our friends the Fish + Letter show up once again, with the Mountain at the very beginning of the line (this has been a strange week for personal reads, that’s for sure).
Here are the cards I drew:

You may not be able see it properly in the blog owing to space constraints, but I laid the cards in a straight line. And what we have is: Mountain–Ring–Fish–Letter–Ship–Gentleman–Book–Owls–Clover. Which also gives us the additional combinations of: Mountain + Clover, Ring + Owls, Fish + Book, and Letter + Gentleman.
The middle card of the reading is the Ship, which can indicate longing (for things to be better in this case). It’s fair to call it a ‘hope’ card given the circumstances. The Ship traditionally bodes well for business, especially overseas, and since almost all of my income comes from other countries, I’m glad to see it here.
The Mountain + Ring looks to me like things get off to a false, or shaky start. Fortunately there aren’t any cards of blockage or loss coming after the Mountain, so once the initial kinks are ironed out, there could be the chance of contract employment (Ring). Since I freelance, this makes sense. The Ring reflects to the Owls, which is indicative of two (Owls) or more sources of income, and this also makes sense. The Mountain reflects to the Clover, and while this can indicate delays, again, with no blockage cards after the Mountain, it does look like things will come right.
The Ring + Fish restates this - money (Fish) coming in through contracts (Ring ), and once again we see the Fish + Letter - a cheque. The Fish reflects the Book, and since I’m not earning money in the espionage business (the Book can represent secrets), I’m hoping that I’ll be able to pick up some freelance writing or editing jobs. This is actually within the realm of possibility, as one of the people I spoke with yesterday knows an employment counsellour with a lot of connections in the publishing field and has made an appointment for us to meet next week.
The Fish + Letter + Ship denotes news from far away, most likely from another country, and most likely from a man (Gentleman is the next card) concerning finances - there aren’t any negatives around it, so I’m seeing it as good news, especially as it’s followed by the Book. I’m not reading the Book as secrets in these combinations because that doesn’t make sense to me - since the Book also represents books and publishing, and that and card-reading are my fields of employment, I’m taking it that way instead. But I’ll show you where it does represent secrets of a sort.
Given that we have the Fish and the Book combining, which can represent accountancy (money and books), I think this part is talking about the audit, and the Owls + Book means someone (me) is getting quite upset about all these discussions (Owls) about matters I consider to be private (Book). This is very true, with a bunch of strangers going over every one of my financial records from the past eight months. Not a happy situation.
But it does look like it’s going to get better. The Owls + Clover usually shows a short period of a lot of worry and stress (Owls) over problems, but the stress disappears because the problems are quickly resolved (Clover). Owls + Clover is also the ‘double luck’ combo - and another one that can signify a lottery win.
So yes, call me a hopeless dreamer, but I traded in my $2 ticket for a ticket for Saturday. Which I’m really not expecting much, if anything, out of, but since I seem to be able to play on the house I’ll continue to do it given the way these combinations are coming up.
My overall take is that the financial problems will resolve, though not as quickly as I’d like them to, probably through both help from a friend overseas, some new work contracts, and that the audit should be wrapped up within the next two weeks as well. I am plenty worried at this point, but that’s Owls + Clover. It’s possible I’ll get some unexpected cash, though there will be a bit of a delay in getting everything sorted, and at first it may look like there won’t be any contracts, or one will fall through. News from a man overseas is going to be a key to things happening. And maybe I’ll win a few bucks (I tell you, this is starting to drive me nuts - I’m not expecting it, but I am really curious to see how this bit plays out).
So there’s the Line of Nine. You might want to try it sometime for a quick look at what’s up in a particular area of your life, and it’s also useful for clients when you don’t have time to throw a full board.

Hi Chanah,
I’m happy that you decided to do a break down of this spread. It makes much more sense to me now that I can follow along with images of the cards.
I’m going to give this spread a try.
I guess $2 is still a win, but since the lottery money keeps coming up in your readings, I think you’re wise to keep playing.
In any case, I’m happy that financial prospects seem to be looking up for you in the near future.

Hi Chanah,
Quick question…
When you do the Line of 9, do you prefer to fan all the cards out face down on the table and then randomly choose your 9 cards, or do you simply deal 9 cards off the top of the shuffled deck?
I’m still trying to refine my own process, and wondered if there was one method that you preferred, or that worked better for you.
Thanks!

Hi Aristede -
You don’t want to hear ‘personal preference’ do you?
Okay - this week I’ve been pulling cards randomly (or possibly not). I’ll be curious to see if it works out or if it’s just one big exercise in wishful thinking.
When I’m doing a 36-card spread, I just deal from the deck after shuffling and cutting three times (I think cutting three times is a gypsy thing, but I liked it, so I do it).
But it’s an interesting experiment - I really don’t know which way will give you better results.
I have had lottery things like this happen before - $2 or $5 going on for months Should I mention that the ticket I got on Wednesday would have been great for the Saturday before? It had five of the numbers from the previous draw. Now that’s my usual lottery luck. I’ve occasionally got all six numbers right, but never for the right day.
I just think it wasn’t meant to be, and I’m really not too certain that the financial situation is going to get better, either, but I always get pretty wigged about that kind of stuff. If I were reading for somebody else on it, I’d be pretty sure, me - ack, I never seem to have money luck.

What a neat spread, Chanah. I’m looking forward to trying this once my Mom’s visit is done and I have some more time.

Hi Chanah,
Nah, I guess I was hoping you’d just tell me how I should do it. Lol! But I know you can’t do that.
Hey, don’t give up on the lottery. Timing isn’t a perfect science in card reading, right? It could still happen.

And it might rain herring (Fish) outside my house, too
But as long as I can play for free, I will - timing isn’t exact on this, and yes, it could happen.
